10 travel journaling prompts to say out loud
Ten travel journaling prompts to say out loud while you're away: what you saw, ate and felt, one minute each. Easier than writing on a train or at day's end.
In this guide
How do you keep a travel journal without writing?
Writing is hard when you are tired, on the move or holding a bag. Talking is easy. A minute at the end of the day, or on the way to the next place, is enough to keep the trip.
These ten prompts ask about what you saw, ate and felt. Answer out loud and you will have the trip in your own voice. If you use a voice journal like Dearly, it writes the page for you while you talk.
What should you say in a travel journal?
What you saw, ate and felt today. Answer one at the end of the day or on the way to the next place.
- Where am I right now, and what can I hear and smell?
- What was the best thing I ate today?
- What surprised me today?
- What did I expect from this place, and what is it really like?
- Who did I meet or notice today?
- What do I want to remember about this exact moment?
- What was harder than I thought today?
- What would I show a friend if they were here?
- What am I missing from home, and what am I not missing?
- What am I glad I did today?
How do you use these prompts?
- Do one at the end of each day. Same question or a new one, whichever you feel like.
- Say what is around you. A sound, a smell or a stranger’s voice will mean more to you later than a summary.
- Talk where you are. On a bench, in a queue or on a bus all work. Headphones with a microphone help in loud places.
- Don’t fix it. Mispronounced names and half sentences are part of the memory.
